Class Attire:
Dancers are required to adhere to our dress code. North Shore School of Dance is a professional school with professional faculty who expect proper attire and neatness.
STUDENT DIVISION
Ballet: Black or solid dark leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes. Hair in a bun. Alignment belt required. (How to Make A Bun)
Contemporary Ballet: Black or solid dark leotard, pink or black tights, pink ballet shoes. Hair in a bun.
Men and Boys- White t-shirt, black tights, black ballet shoes.
Jazz: Black or solid dark leotard with tights, capris, or jazz pants.
Modern: Black or solid dark leotard with tights, capris, or jazz pants.
Tap: Children- Leotard and Jazz pants, low heeled patten leather tap shoes. Elastics or tap ties required.
Boys- Comfortable clothing, jazz or oxford taps.
Women & girls over 12- leotard & tights, or comfortable clothing, heeled taps. Hard box and shank preferred.
Hip-Hop: Light weight T-Shirt or camisole and jazz pants. Jazz sneakers or shoes. No gym shoes.
PRE-DANCE DIVISION
Girls: Pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes. Tutu's, skirts, and dress up outfits are not permitted in class. Black patten leather tap shoes and elastics or tap ties needed for tap. No shoelaces please.
Boys: White t-shirt, black pants, black ballet shoes. Black tap shoes needed for tap.
Jazz Pants and jazz shoes are optional for pre-dance jazz classes. All combination classes only change shoes (if necessary), not complete attire.
Dancers should not wear their dance shoes outside. Any student wearing their shoes from the street to the studio will not be permitted to dance in those shoes.
Class Levels:
Ballet, Modern, Jazz
Jr 1a- 1st & 2nd grade. Includes students moving out of Pre-Dance Division.
Jr 1b- 2nd graders moving up from 1a.
Jr 2a- Students continuing from 1b or little or no experience beyond the age of six.
Jr 2b- Students continuing from 2a. Minimum of 2 years training.
Jr 3- Students continuing from 2b. Minimum of 3 years training.
Jr 4- By approval only. Pre-pointe level.
Sr 1- Little or no experience.
Sr 2- Dancers moving up from the junior levels.
Sr 3- Minimum of 4 years training. Beginning pointe level by approval.
Sr 4- Minimum of 5 years training or directors approval.
Sr 5- Minimum of 6 years training or directors approval.
Sr 6- Minimum of 7 years training or directors approval.
Sr 7- By approval only.
Sr 8- By approval only.
Hip-hop
Jr 1- Little or no experience.
Jr 2- Minimum 1 year experience.
Jr 3- Minimum 2 years experience.
Jr 4- By approval only.
Sr 1- Little or no experience.
Sr 2- Dancers moving up from the junior levels.
Sr 3- Minimum of 3 years in senior levels.
Sr 4- Minimum of 4 years in senior level.
Sr 5- By approval only.
Sr 6- By approval only.
Tap
Jr 1a- Little or no experience.
Jr 1b- Little or no experience.
Jr 2- Minimum of 2 years experience.
Jr 3- Minimum of 3 years experience.
Jr 4- By approval only.
Beg- Little experience.
Int- By approval only.
Adv- By approval only.
Advancement is determined by the instructor and director only.
Students should master the skills of their level before being advanced to the next level.
Due to our extensive syllabus, students may be required to participate in certain levels for two or more years.
Levels III and above must be registered in a minimum of two technique classes per week.
Please Note: Pre-dance classes before the age of six are not included in minimum experience requirements.
