Pre-Dance Division
Pre-Dance Division Classes are for 2.5 - 6 year olds.
Classes are an introduction to movement, rhythms, and coordination in a fun and imaginative atmosphere with various dance style emphasis options in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop!

Pre-Dance Class Descriptions
Fancy Feet (Ages 2.5 - 4)
Combo Classes (Ages 5 - 6)
Fancy Feet (Ages 2.5 - 3)
This class focuses on music and movement, while teaching the basics of ballet and creative movement. Our instructors use imagery, fantasy and make believe to inspire each child’s individuality. Rhythm skills, coordination, and self expression are encouraged and supported throughout each class. Classes at this age are 30 minutes. Potty training encouraged, however, pull ups are acceptable. Students must be 2.5 (30 months) by August 31st.

Fancy Feet 3 (Age 3)
This is a creative movement class that continues the adventures from Fancy Feet 2.5 Coordination, loco-motor, and rhythm skills are taught in an animated and creative manner that feels like ballet. Students gain a strong belief in themselves and develop a sense of pride in their abilities. Potty training is necessary to attend the 3-year-old class. Classes at this age are 45 minutes. Students must be 3 by August 31st.

Fancy Feet 4 (Age 4)
This is a creative movement class that continues the adventures from Fancy Feet 3. Coordination, loco-motor, and rhythm skills are taught in an animated and creative manner that feels like ballet. Students have the option to introduce combo classes and explore rhythmic patterns in ballet/jazz or ballet/tap. Students gain a strong belief in themselves and develop a sense of pride in their abilities. Potty training is necessary to attend the 3-year-old class. Classes at this age are 45 minutes. Students must be 3 by August 31st.
Pre-Ballet
This class is designed for kindergarten students who are 5 and 6 years old. Students are taught basic ballet technique, character steps, and enhanced jumping combinations. Our Instructors continue to use vibrant and colorful imagery in their approaches to each class. The introduction of popular Ballet stories enhances each students love of ballet and appreciation of art and music. Classes at this age are 45 minutes. Pre-Ballet classes are also part of our 1-hour combination classes.
Pre-Jazz
This class is designed for kindergarten students who are 5 and 6 years old. Pre-Jazz classes at NSSD are primarily part of our combination classes, whether it is Pre-Ballet and Jazz or Pre-Jazz and Tap. Students are introduced to the concepts of classical jazz technique by working in a different stylized way of moving. Isolations, parallel positions, and continued flexibility are all part of the experience. Classes at this age are part of our 1-hour combination classes.
Pre-Tap
This class is designed for kindergarten students who are 5 and 6 years old. Pre-Tap classes at NSSD are primarily part of our combination classes, whether it is Pre-Ballet and Tap or Pre-Jazz and Tap. Students are introduced to basic tap skills, rhythm, and coordination. Alignment, balancing, and isolations of the feet are worked on each week. Classes at this age are part of our 1 hour combination classes.

Pre-Hip Hop
This high energy class is designed for kindergarten students who are 5 and 6 years old. Our hip hop classes combine rhythm and beat with funky upbeat music to gain flexibility, strength and overall positive self esteem. Classes at this age are 45 minutes. Pre-Hip Hop classes are also part of our 1 hour combination classes.

Pre-Dance Showcase
Pre-Dance Graduation
Our Pre-Dance Showcases are a very comfortable and informal stage experience for our youngest dancers. Students are provided with simple costuming. These showcases are optional to all students.
Families love our short shows which also feature the North Shore Ballet Theatre. As a reminder, flash photographer is prohibited for both dress rehearsal and stage performance. The brightness of the flash can be blinding and potentially dangerous to performers.

All students who are in Kindergarten classes will graduate into the student division upon completion of the school year.
Exciting things await these dancers at NSSD. Dancers going into 1st grade are eligible for many styles of dance in levels Jr 1A and/or Jr 1. Class choices for these dancers are after school and on Saturday's.
